Welcome by Ambassador Nathalie Jaarsma
Welcome to the website of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nicosia
Welcome to the website of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cyprus. This embassy represents the Netherlands in Cyprus with the core task to strengthen Dutch-Cypriot relations. Whether it be through trade, culture, education, sports or in some other way. Another important task is to look after the interests of Dutch nationals living in or travelling to Cyprus, especially when a new passport or a temporary travel document is needed. It is a privilege to me to live and work in this beautiful country with a rich history, culture and great hospitality.
The relationship between the Netherlands and Cyprus is good and has intensified since Cyprus joined the EU of which the Netherlands is one of the founding members. Our two countries share the same ambition on building a strong and prosperous Europe.
In the field of trade and investment, our relationship is a two-way street. For years companies based in the Kingdom of the Netherlands have been among the main investors in the Cypriot economy. The strategic location of Cyprus, connecting Europe with the Middle East and Asia, is one of the reasons for companies to have interests in Cyprus. Cypriot businesses are attracted to the healthy trade and investment climate in the Netherlands. Important sectors are shipping, oil and gas, tourism and the financial sector.
The Netherlands would welcome a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem.
The Netherlands contributes to bicommunal activities of non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) that result in a better understanding between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. Dutch military and police were part of the UN-mission UNFICYP from respectively 1998 to 2001 and in 2003 and 2001.
